Queen Mary Scholarships
Queen Mary, University of London"s School of Law is offering 7 Studentships for the 2009-10 academic year, covering all tuition fees (home/EU or overseas level) and providing a maintenance grant at research council rates of at least £14,900 per year (reviewed annually).
These awards are available to support research in any topic within the discipline. However, this year, the Department of Law is particularly keen to support Studentship applications in the following areas:
o Criminal Law & Criminal Justice
o Medical Law & Ethics
o Public Law, Corporate Law & Tax Law
The Centre for Commercial Law Studies is particularly keen to support Studentship applications in the following specialist areas:
o Response to the Financial Crisis
o Lex Specialis and Insolvency Law
o Regulation & Arbitration
o International Tax and Development
o Information Governance
o Intellectual Property Institutions
A further joint School of Law/School of Business & Management Studentship is also available in the area of Commercial Law and Business, specifically in the topic of Corporate Social Responsibility and Ethical Branding

*Intellectual Property - Herchel Smith MPhil/PhD Scholarships*
For new and continuing MPhil/PhD students in the area of intellectual property law. These awards cover tuition fees (home/EU or overseas rates) as well as a quarterly stipend which varies from year to year.
Awards are made on an annual basis, but can be renewed on application in subsequent years. Successful recipients of this award are not required to undertake any teaching or research assistant duties.

*Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GTAs) *
The Department of Law is offering 4 GTAs to MPhil/PhD students providing home/EU fee
waiver and a maintenance grant at research council rates; in 2008 this was £12,000. Applicants
must hold a UK LLB, as GTAs are required to teach up to 5 hours per week on the LLB within the Department of Law (with all the appropriate administration that accompanies this - such as
providing office hours, acting as student advisors and marking of student essays). GTAs are
allocated on the basis of the teaching needs in the Department of Law and the areas of
expertise of the PhD students.

He said it would address the shortfall in PhD research numbers in Welsh universities and colleges.
The doctoral researchers will be placed within participating businesses.
"We hope that many firms will partner with us on this project to ensure that innovation and enterprise become a by-word for the Welsh business sector and to show that a small economy can punch above its weight and compete successfully with the best in the world," Prof Clement said.
And his university had already held detailed talks with some of the world"s leading research institutions on ways of collaborating on the project - he met the president of the University of California earlier this week, for instance.
Anticipated side benefits include the recruitment of more overseas undergraduates, other research students and international research academics.
The £11.4m programme will be launched officially at the Prince of Wales" London offices at Clarence House in May. It is hoped it will continue beyond 2012.
